Cloud Forest Tour - Pantropical Trail (1.5 hr)

Experience the beauty of Hawaiʻi's only cloud forest on this 1.5-hour guided tour of the Kona Cloud Forest Sanctuary's Pantropical Lower Loop Trail. This shorter tour covers approximately half a mile with gentle elevation changes of about 100 feet, making it ideal for families with young children, budget-conscious travelers, or anyone with limited time who doesn't want to miss this unique ecosystem.

Your guide leads you through a privately stewarded forest that has been family-forested since 1982, sharing the story of its climate, volcanic geology, reforestation efforts, and the delicate ecological balance within. The trail winds past rare trees, ferns, palms, bamboo, and tropical flowers from around the world. Listen for native Hawaiian honeycreepers singing overhead and visit areas that inspired James Cameron and the cast of Avatar.

The sanctuary sits at elevation above Kailua-Kona where cloud forest conditions create temperatures 10–15 degrees cooler than the coast. Rain is common and part of the experience — bring a rain jacket and wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable outdoor clothing (pants recommended). Walking sticks, bug spray, water, and photos are provided.

Offered daily with a maximum of 16 guests per tour. Located 15 minutes up the mountain from Kona Keahole Airport. Arrive at least 10 minutes early — tours start on time.
